The Oregon Area Community Book Project is looking for volunteers!

We are planning a book that will record Oregon’s past since 1941, present, and vision for the future. The strength of this project is the participation of the community. This book is for everyone in the greater Oregon area and everyone will be invited to have a voice in it.

In addition to the book product, other potential outcomes of the Oregon Area Community Book Project include:

• Community spirit created through volunteerism and collaboration
• A documentary (on DVD) that shows how to engage and build community through a book process.

The schedule for the book is:

• August-December 2009: Planning the project, building the organization
• January-December 2010: Gathering content (collaborating with Oregon Library Centennial committee)
• January-May 2011: Publishing process.
• Books will be available for Oregon’s Summerfest in June 2011

A working group comprised of volunteers and a professional project director has begun planning the Oregon Area Community Book Project. Volunteers from the Oregon Library Centennial Committee and the Oregon Area Historical Society are providing leadership.

Central organizing task group:

Lisa Hustad, President, Oregon Library Board
Julia Meyers, Oregon Historical Society Board Member
Sarah White, Project director, grant writer, editor

We are working with the Oregon Library and Oregon Area Historical Society's Board of Directors.
