Polka Lesson with Deb & Mike Moe

Learn or review an easy triple step basic along with other fun moves! Mike & Deb have been dancing for 23 years.

Polka lessons are targeted towards adults but are also family friendly. All ages welcome.

This event is part of the Dane County Polkas! series. In an effort to help Dane County patrons of all ages learn more about polka’s rich history in the Midwest, the public libraries in Fitchburg, Oregon, and Verona are offering a special series of programs, Dane County Polkas!, from late March through April this year.

Pint-Size Polkas

Get-up-and-move to Uncle Mike's polka snappy beat.

Participation opportunities abound! The audience is invited to learn the steps to songs like the "Chicken Dance" and "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes"; volunteer to wear various hats and guess the corresponding occupations; play name that tune for polka versions of three children's classics; and sing along to all of Uncle Mike's catchy polka songs.

FREE. Registration is not required.

Artists in Absentia Exhibit

Artists in Absentia Oakhill Correctional Institution at Oregon Library May, 2016

Join us for a reception and documentary screening for Artists-in-Absentia. Oakhill Prison Humanities Project volunteer instructors will introduce the program and exhibition. We will also screen a short documentary by local filmmaker Marc Kornblatt chronicling the creation of the exhibition; this film will provide further insight into the works on display and the men that made them.

Planting Seeds with the Experts

Save money by growing your own food and by planting with seeds.  Master Gardeners Anne Michels and Anne Lies from UW-Extension will demonstrate how to plant using seeds.

The first 20 attendees will be able to have seeds, media, labels and pots for your participants to plant up and take home.

In August, learn how to save seeds from your harvest, to use next season.

Legends of the Leprechauns, A Live Radio Play

Watch and listen to Tall tales of the Emerald Isle.  Legends of the Leprechauns is a live radio play based on leprechaun stories as told by William Butler Yeats and Thomas Crofton Croker.
A radio play combines live actors speaking their parts, sounds effects produced by the actors, an authentic set, and extraodinary stories. Produced by Heartline Productions.
This performance is free to the public. 
This library event is located at the Oregon Area Senior Center, next door to the library.
